Nintendo reveals Nintendo Labo, launching 4/20/18

Nintendo release Nintendo Labo – a new way to play with the Switch

After telling us via their UK site to, “Tune in to discover a new interactive experience for Nintendo Switch that’s specifically crafted for kids and those who are kids at heart,” Nintendo has revealed Nintendo Labo:

With an amazing first year under their belt and the fastest selling console in U.S. history, Nintendo isn’t resting on their laurels for year two. They want the Switch to have a very long lifespan, and this is apparently their way of aiming at the younger audience and capitalizing on the unique form factor of the Switch.

With cardboard and your Switch console, you can turn your joycons into a variety of, “toycons.” With initial examples of piano lessons, remote controlled robots, fishing games, racing games, some sort of house sim, and apparently a wearable cardboard outfit that will control a fighting robot, this looks like a maker and gamer dream collaboration.

Nintendo has long charted its own slightly odd path, with quite a bit of success. If this Labo project is a hit, they’ll have done it again, with something almost no one could have seen coming.

Check stores on 4/20/18 when the first two sets go on sale. If the video is anything to go by, these are the first of many eventual releases.
