Overwatch League team Dallas Fuel Announce Release of Félix “xQc” Lengyel

The release we all saw coming finally happened.

Overwatch League team Dallas Fuel have agreed to mutually part ways with controversial player Félix “xQc” Lengyel, following xQc’s second suspension from Overwatch League, the team announced today. xQc played main tank for the Fuel and was first suspended for homophobic remarks against an opposing player and then for the second time earlier this week for a number of reasons, including spreading racially derogatory emotes and called the Overwatch League casters “cancer”.

“There are few players out there who have achieved as much success in as short a time as Félix has in competitive Overwatch. Ultimately, it was in the best interest of our organization and Félix to part ways before the expiration of his contract,” said Mike Rufail, owner of the Dallas Fuel. “No one wants to see Félix succeed more than we do, and we believe he has a bright future ahead of him. I want to thank him for his time and the passion he brought to the Dallas Fuel.”

Last week xQc stated in Discord chat that he’d likely step down from the Fuel as a result of his punishment. During his time in Overwatch League he’s spent a lot of time in the spotlight, both for his standout play on Winston and his controversial behavior and remarks. His contract with the Fuel was set to expire at the end of the first Overwatch League season, but now the star players future on the professional scene is in serious doubt. Should another one of Overwatch Leagues’ 12 teams want to take a chance on the contentious main tank, they’ll have to wait under after March 25th to get him on the practice field.

“Our focus is to field a roster with players that are available to help the Dallas Fuel succeed now and in the future. Releasing Félix today allows us the flexibility to make additional signings during the league transfer window and allows Félix to pursue other opportunities this season and on stream.”

On Thursday of this week the Fuel added Min-seok “OGE” Son to it’s roster. OGE is likely to step into xQc’s role as main tank and will be eligible to compete in Overwatch League beginning April 4th.
