Hunt For Wolverine: Claws of a Killer #3 Review

A trying issue that barely progresses a thing.

These “Hunt for Wolverine” comics are really trying my patience. It is quite clear at this point these comics is to draw out Logan’s return — the stories are decompressed and barely reveal a thing about Logan’s whereabouts or even his past. This series uses three of his closest rivals and yet hasn’t told us much up to this point. I’m holding out hope it reveals something soon, especially since this is the penultimate issue.

So what’s it about?

Why does this matter?

Conceptually we’re getting closer to finding out where Logan is, where he was, and finally having him back in the MU. This series among the others are all building towards another miniseries that should have the original Logan back in the MU proper for good. If you love Logan you’ll need to read this.

Fine, you have my attention. What’s good about it?

Run dude!

Butch Guice and Mack Chater have been drawing quite a good series here. The zombies look great (read: gross and awful) and the brutal violence is realistic and believable. When you have characters who are basically immortal running from the enemies you need to have some shock and fear which is also well rendered here. There are a few moments where Daken looks up, says a swear in shock, and runs all captured in genuine ways.

This story is doing a good job putting our protagonists on the ropes. The healing factor failing is one thing, but they’re also completely confused (much like the reader). Military types are doing bad things and it (presumably) ties into Logan’s past. It’s becoming clear these characters want Logan dead, but they also are becoming more curious about what the heck is going on.

Run!!!

It can’t be perfect can it?

This. Story. Is. So. SLOW. I can’t get over how little has happened in three issues. There’s a general emotional arc for each character, but the details are very scarce. After two issues I was hoping for some big reveals in the penultimate issue, but this issue completely drops the ball. It continues to tell very little. If this series was a TV show we’d be at minute 18 in an hour long story.

Is it good?

I can’t stand how slow this story is and how it can’t get us further along in 20 pages. It’s clearly an idea that would be excellent in one issue (two issues tops) but lingers and progresses at a pace that goes from annoying to condescending. Give us something or don’t do it at all.

Is it good?
This issue barely progresses things and is easily skippable.
Well drawn and the zombie elements are good too
Brutal violence works in this scenario
Once again, nothing really happens and there's little progression
Like...where is Wolverine?
