Disney streaming service brings Loki, Scarlet Witch and more Marvel heroes their own TV series

Leaked Disney streaming service news is blowing fans away.

Move over Daredevil, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones — this just in: new TV shows set to air on the Disney Streaming Service which focus on superhero characters we all thought were dead. According to Variety, Disney is in the early development stages with a few limited series focused on popular characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe; the series will be about Loki and the Scarlet Witch, the only two characters named thus far. One more big takeaway? They’ll be be produced by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.

It might be worth taking this report with a grain of salt since it is not confirmed by Marvel or Disney and Variety is claiming their source is “close to the production.”

All that said, if we were to take this news seriously there are some important things to take note of. The first of which is the fact that Feige is producing, which he has not done on any Marvel TV show to date (besides the enigmatic title of executive producer on both seasons of Agent Carter). That shows Disney is very serious about these shows as well as kicking off their streaming service the right way. God forbid they offer up a clunker of a TV show like the PlayStation Network did with Powers (which I admittedly liked but it was a hard pill to swallow).

That said, shows dedicated to Loki and Scarlet Witch sound like great ideas. Loki is one of the most cherished characters, which is proven if you’ve ever walked into a comic book convention (there are droves of Loki cosplayers). Tom Hiddleston is also a fantastic actor who has done great work with the character. I speak from personal experience when I relate how upset my girlfriend was when he (SPOILER ALERT) met his demise in Avengers: Infinity War. Speaking of which, if he were to be resurrected that would be one hell of a way to draw in audiences.

Then there is Elizabeth Olsen possibly starring in a TV show. I’ve loved this actress since the 2011 drama Martha Marcy May Marlene. Her ability to act in very serious and tender moments has, frankly, been lost on the Marvel movies. Giving her a TV show could rectify that.

Whether or not this news is real, one can admit pushing superheroes into the TV realm (or at least the streaming realm that is admittedly smaller in scope) is a likely thing (and probably the right move). Actors seem to cherish the idea of doing serial storytelling in a shorter format because they can explore their characters further. Henry Cavill knows something about that, seeing as he recently signed on for Netflix’s The Witcher. Now whether or not Loki and Scarlet Witch get new costumes is the real question!
