Our own Chris Hassan started a firestorm this summer when he reported that legendary Uncanny X-Men artist John Byrne had been in contact with current Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski about possibly doing more work with the publisher. The later surfacing of a particular photograph only added fuel to that fire.
Cebulski brought a “Marvel Fanfare” panel to New York Comic Con this year, which was part him waxing nostalgic about his own history in the comics business, and part communing with the readers and answering their questions. The very first was about that interest-piquing picture.
“That was me as a fan going up and wanting to say hello,” Cebulski said, undoubtedly crushing the querier’s dreams. “It was just me being a geeky fanboy.”
But that doesn’t mean, necessarily, that another collaboration in the future isn’t possible, as Cebulski assured everyone that “the door is open” if Byrne wants to have that conversation. It just hasn’t started yet.
