Baptiste, Overwatch’s 30th hero, is now available on the Public Test Region

The seventh support hero in Overwatch is available to play today.

Baptiste, the 30th hero to join Overwatch and its seventh support hero, is now available for play on the Public Test Region (PTR). While a short lore story was released yesterday, a breakdown of his abilities and a peek into how he will fit into the meta was given in a Developer Update video today.

His character is explained as: “An elite combat medic and ex-Talon operative, Baptiste now uses his skills to help those whose lives have been impacted by war.”

Baptiste is primarily a support character, and most of the time you’ll be firing with your secondary attack, which is a grenade launcher that heals all allies hit. However, he can help pick off some heroes with his primary attack, which fires three bullets in rapid succession.

He also builds two types of generators: One that heals himself and allies over time, like a more powerful Lucio healing aura, and one that prevents all allies from dying while they stand within its aura. Both generators can be destroyed.

His ultimate is a wall-type construction that amplifies all damage and healing effects that are shot through it by allies.

Baptiste’s abilities include:

Biotic Launcher (primary attack/secondary attack)
Baptiste’s three-round-burst Biotic Launcher rewards accuracy and recoil control with significant damage output. It also doubles as a healing device, lobbing projectiles that heal allies near the point of impact.

Regenerative Burst (Shift)
Baptiste activates an intense regenerative burst that heals himself and nearby allies over time.

Immortality Field (E)
Baptiste uses a device to create a field that prevents allies from dying. The generator can be destroyed.

Amplification Matrix (ultimate ability)
Baptiste creates a matrix that doubles the damage and healing effects of friendly projectiles that pass through it.

Exo Boots (passive)
By first crouching, Baptiste can jump higher.

From my quick testing of the hero it seems like he will be an incredibly fun support, and should spice up the healing meta. Where he will fit into comps such as GOATs, however, remains to be seen.

Hop on the PTR now to try him out!
