If last issue is any indication, Dan Slott and Aaron Kuder have a banger of an action-packed issue this week. They already had plenty, but now the stage is set for Dr. Doom and Galactus to go toe to toe with the Fantastic Four. Or maybe a team up is in order?

Why does this matter?
The Fantastic Four are still getting their bearings and it’s fun to see them thrust into an adventure involving their two greatest villains. This story also progresses a subplot for Doom and, according to the official summary, may be laying the groundwork for a new relationship for Human Torch.
Fine, you have my attention. What’s good about it?

Kuder is joined by John Lucas with colors by Marte Gracia with Rachelle Rosenberg and the imagery is out of this world. From the glow of a purple orb in Galactus’ hand to the clean cel-shaded look of all the characters, there are a lot of visuals to enjoy here. I found myself lingering on panels simply because they were so pretty. In one, for example, the stone detailing in Thing’s face is quite something and even Mr. Fantastic’s beard is something to marvel at. There are some impressive near full-page spreads (full page spread worthy pages tend to have a panel or two thrown on top) mainly thanks to the size and scope of Galactus compared to the rest of the characters.
The story here is very much setup so that each member of the Fantastic Four can contribute to the fight. They split up to help out and it’s fun to see each get their due (although Invisible Woman’s role is kind of lame and even she knows it). The Dr. Doom and Mr. Fantastic dynamic are quite cool and it’s hard to deny the classic vibes this story is giving us. It’s another Dr. Doom fight with team-up moments too.

It can’t be perfect, can it?
The plotting is a bit forced, pushing Thing to do his part, Human Torch to do him, and so on. Mr. Fantastic’s role is more to learn about Galactus’ turn as a hero in the last few years rather than do anything on his own. He does get a moment, but it’s not showing off that intellect of his. I also find it hard to believe the Fantastic Four would trust Dr. Doom for a second, but this is also a comic about a guy who can turn into flames so it’s an easy element to forgive.
Is it good?
An action-packed issue that features each Fantastic Four member doing their part. The book is visually stunning and new details emerge about the characters that excite.
