DC Universe’s Swamp Thing is just one week away from release. So, how better to get fans and perspective viewers excited to tune in than for our favorite comic-based streaming service to release a trailer spotlighting Dr. Abigail Arcane?
Abby Arcane (Crystal Reed) is a doctor at the CDC who has returned home to Houma, Louisiana to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus. She quickly comes to realize that this is no normal virus, and events in her home town are quickly taking a sinister and deadly turn. See for yourself below.
It doesn’t take long for things to go from bad to horrifyingly bad. The trailer beings with a child bleeding from the nose and convulsing on a classroom floor, followed by Abby in head-to-toe medical gear investigating a plant sample with her voice over telling us “This sample is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before.” Local police officer Matt Cable joins Abby in investigating a corpse that’s got vines coming out of every orifice and is quickly being transformed into a full blown plant.
You can quickly piece together as the trailer progresses that the virus is killing people and the process is mutating their bodies in human plant hybrid creatures. It becomes pretty apparent when an unknown man is seen convulsing on the floor with a leaf emerging from his mouth amidst a pile of green vomit. Even more telling is a pair of hands in medical gloves holding what appears to be a human heart that’s nearly turned completely into a plant.
Andy Bean plays Alec Holland, a local scientist that strikes up a romance with Abby before his untimely demise. But Alec isn’t gone for good, the trailer concludes with the emergence of Swamp Thing (Derek Mears) from the swamp waters. Somehow Holland escapes death and is transformed into the legendary DC hero in the process.
