‘The Last Drive-in’ is back for a second season and here’s what we’d like to see

Here is what we’d like to see the second season of ‘The Last Drive-in’.

Common sense said it was coming back. With Darcy the Mail Girl being thrown in Twitter jail every week and the show taking over social media every Friday night, it seemed like a no-brainer Shudder’s The Last Drive-in would be renewed for a second season. It took longer than expected, but it was finally announced TLDI will be returning. Here are the movies we would like to see most.

The New York Ripper

'The Last Drive-in' is back for a second season and here's what we'd like to see

This 1982 giallo is one of the most graphic of the genre. Incredibly violent and hyper sexual, the movie is not afraid to up the ante. Sure, we’ve seen killers that take out their pent up rage on scantily clad women. But how often do we see a killer that disguises their identity with a Donald Duck voice?

Zombie

'The Last Drive-in' is back for a second season and here's what we'd like to see

Another classic from Lucio Fulci, this unauthorized sequel to George A Romero’s Dawn of the Dean is filled with memorable moments. The eye gouging scene may be the best one in film history while the zombie versus shark scene is as great as it sounds. I’m already excited for the Drive in Totals.

Book of Monsters

TLDI has shown its willingness to play recent movies. This 2019 release from DREAD is perfect for any drive in. The film has great creature effects, creative kills, and jokes that actually make you laugh. An 80’s B horror movie tone mixes with modern sensibilities to deliver a fun movie.

Suspiria (1977)

'The Last Drive-in' is back for a second season and here's what we'd like to see

During the first season of TLDI, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night was shown. Some Drive-in fans found it to be too artsy and pretentious. Take out the vampires and hipsters and you might have thought they were talking about Dario Argento’s Suspiria. The movie is definitely polarizing, but it deserves the Job Bob treatment.

Near Dark

'The Last Drive-in' is back for a second season and here's what we'd like to see

Set in a rural town, a farmer’s son becomes enthralled with a young lady vampire. After hearing Joe Bob’s take on A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, Near Dark is a western/horror/love story with super awesome Tangerine Dream Soundtrack. Plus, Bill Paxton is in it! There is plenty to discuss about this film.

Sleepaway Camp III

'The Last Drive-in' is back for a second season and here's what we'd like to see

Angela Baker (Pamela Springsteen – sister to the Boss) is endearing and homicidal and she makes her way through camp, killing rude, horny, and lazy kids, making quips and dropping puns along the way.  Each death is unique and would make for some interesting Drive-in Totals.

The Wicker Man (1973)

'The Last Drive-in' is back for a second season and here's what we'd like to see

A strange mystery concerning a missing child is afoot in Summerisle. There are lots of great performances: Chrisopher Lee, Ingrid Pitt, and Edward Woodward. There is some interesting nudity and butt slapping, creepy children, and strange practices. Overall, it’s just a fun watch.

Don’t Go in the Woods

'The Last Drive-in' is back for a second season and here's what we'd like to see

A group of musicians, despite the title’s warning, venture into the woods to find inspiration for their demo album. The band’s music plays throughout the film and the songs sound exactly like ripoffs of popular 90’s tunes.  I don’t like it, but I have so many questions about its existence and I think Joe Bob would have the answers.

Night of the Comet

'The Last Drive-in' is back for a second season and here's what we'd like to see

The passage of a comet days before Christmas leaves the world nearly empty after toxic comet dust has annihilated most of the planet and infected others with zombieism. Two teenage sisters, Reggie and Sam, complete with teenage problems, search for other survivors and encounter scientists, more zombies, and love interests. It’s a silly movie, often categorized as a sci-fi/comedy/horror. It would be great to hear more about the making of this film and any other stories that might accompany it.
