There’s an ‘Endless’ love for Neil Gaiman’s stories, shown recently by Starz’s American Gods and Amazon’s Good Omens, based on the Gaiman/Terry Pratchett book. Back in 2013, Don Jon director Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Krypton producer David Goyer were working on a film adaptation of Gaiman’s Sandman comics, though Levitt dropped out in 2016.
Now, The Hollywood Reporter have reported that Netflix has signed a “massive financial deal” with Warner Bros. Television to adapt Sandman into a live action series. Wonder Woman writer Allan Heinberg will write and showrun, while Gaiman and Goyer will Executive Produce. Sandman has been ordered straight to series, which means a pilot isn’t used to decide whether to make it into a full show.
The Sandman comics center around Dream, one of the seven Endless. The Endless are physical personifications of concepts like Destiny, Death, Desire, Despair, Delirium and Destruction. It was part of DC’s Vertigo line, a line which is set to be discontinued by January 2020 as part of DC’s new age-based branding plan.
The amount of episodes is unknown and a formal deal is still to be closed.
