Recently, there’s been a great deal of Disney news, proving that, when it comes to the House of Mouse, it really isn’t such a small world after all. Earlier today, Disney treated fans to the first glimpse of Maleficent sequel, Mistress of Evil.
Angelina Jolie returns in the sequel to the 2014 film, which revealed a new layer of tragedy and conflict to the Dark Fairy’s story. While I feel Sleeping Beauty was more of a gothic fairy tale, Maleficent was more an epic, yet dark, fantasy. It was visually stunning, thrilling and Jolie was a real highlight as Maleficent, all of which you’ll find in the above trailer.
Prince Phillip (Brenton Thwaites) proposes to Princess Aurora (Elle Fanning), which sparks a crackling conflict between Maleficent and Phillip’s mother, Queen Ingrith (Michelle Pfeiffer). Aurora seems torn between her new family and her adoptive mother, and refuses to believe this cruelty is who her mother really is. Towards the end, the trailer also teases a new and surprising conflict for Maleficent, which should be interesting to see explored.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil releases October 18th, 2019 in the US.
