‘The Matrix 4’ is officially happening — with Keanu Reeves

Lana Wachowski is set to write and direct the next entry in the landmark sci-fi series.

I hope you still know kung fu, because we’re going back inside The Matrix.

Listen to the latest episode of our weekly movies podcast, Adventures in Movies!

According to Variety, Lana Wachowski is on board to write and direct a fourth film in the Matrix universe, set to star Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss as they reprise their roles as Neo and Trinity, respectively.

Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich made the announcement, saying “we could not be more excited to be re-entering ‘The Matrix’ with Lana. Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.”

The movie will begin production in 2020.

1999’s The Matrix is considered one of the most important, original, and groundbreaking science fiction movies of all time, revolving around a world where the world we think we know is really a computer simulation called the Matrix. It spawned two less revered sequels, The Matrix: Reloaded and The Matrix: Revolutions, as well as an anime, The Animatrix.
