Eric Bischoff reportedly didn’t know wrestlers’ names during SmackDown tenure

Eric Bischoff’s tenure with SmackDown will go down as an odd footnote in wrestling history.

Eric Bischoff was surprisingly ousted as Executive Director of Friday Night SmackDown today, replaced by longtime WWE executive Bruce Prichard. While the shakeup seemingly came out of nowhere, apparently nobody really had any idea what Eric Bischoff was actually doing in his role.

On today’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Brian Alvarez detailed some of the stuff he’s heard about the former WCW President’s time on WWE’s blue brand, and it didn’t sound good.

“I heard that he just didn’t know anybody,” Alvarez explained. “He didn’t know any of the talent. He didn’t go out of his way to learn about anything. He would leave and nobody could get a hold of him. I heard zero, zero good things about Eric Bischoff when he was doing whatever he was doing.”

Bischoff made it known that he hadn’t been keeping up with the WWE product before he got hired for this position, and bizarrely, it seems that he didn’t keep up with it even when he was responsible for it.
