Very good, Master Serkis.

Many consider the Batman a hero, but they should never forget his greatest ally: Alfred Pennyworth, a hero in his own right. For Matt Reeves’ The Batman, the faithful butler will certainly not be forgotten, as The Wrap reports that performance capture pioneer Andy Serkis is in talks to play him in The Batman.

If cast, he’d be the 12th actor to play the eponymous butler, with Douglas Hodge recently portraying him in Joker, while Jack Bannon currently stars as Alfred in Epix’s Pennyworth. He’d be joining Pattinson’s Batman, Paul Dano’s Riddler, Jeffrey Wright’s Commissioner Gordon and Zoe Kravitz’ Catwoman, only adding to the star-studded cast.

Reeves has described the film as a ”defining” and ”very personal” story about the Caped Crusader. Serkis is well known for playing Gollum in Lord of the Rings and Caeser in the Planet of the Apes trilogy. He’s also directing Venom 2, to be released 2nd October 2020.

The Batman releases June 25th, 2021.
