Some random questions from some random ‘Star Wars’ fans

Trying to answer the big ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ questions.

The Rise of Skywalker has come and gone. The final part of the Skywalker saga may be the most polarizing entry in the entire franchise. The movie has so much good and bad going for it, that it is hard to figure out where it belongs when comparing it to the rest of the franchise. One thing TROS did leave fans with is plenty of questions. After watching the film, I talked with some fans of the series.

Warning! Spoilers for The Rise of Skywalker below!

Were they trying to prove to certain fans Poe is not homosexual?

Some random questions from some random 'Star Wars' fans

One of the best things about TROS was Poe Dameron. He was cocky in a cool way, funny, and is part of some of the film’s best moments. You can explain away the jealousy to not being in on the private conversation Finn wanted to have with Rey as the reactions of a jilted friend. Zorii Bliss is a different story, however. Every interaction between the two ended with Poe showing how badly he wanted to hook up with Zorii. It almost seemed like someone wanted to make a point. It ended up proving that even a long time ago in galaxies far away, some gay men try to hard to hide what they are.

Is there anything Rey can’t do?

Some random questions from some random 'Star Wars' fans

She always wins fights, is the best pilot in the Resistance, and can resurrect the dead. She is even able to finish business no Skywalker has been able to do in their own damn saga. Rey is the this trilogy’s Chosen One, and should have an amazing power set. But when she is removing any tension from all her scenes and making her friends seem irrelevant, it may be time to rethink just how strong she really needs to be.

Why didn’t Luke get the second lightsaber before?

Some random questions from some random 'Star Wars' fans

TROS was a series of one big reveal after another. One of them was the fact that Leia had a lightsaber of her own. Why was it never mentioned before? That is actually a running theme in TROS. The real question is why didn’t Luke ever use it in the Original Trilogy? It’s not like he was a sword and board type of guy. Maybe if he had learned to dual wield the green and blue sabers he could have beaten Palpatine for real.

Why did Anakin dis Ben?

Some random questions from some random 'Star Wars' fans

In the final moments of TROS, it is revealed that every Jedi resides inside Rey. (Of course they do.) In her greatest moment of need, some of them begin to speak to her. Leia, Luke, and Yoda are all heard giving her encouragement. Another person who speaks to Rey is Anakin Skywalker. It is obvious why he would not talk to Kylo Ren. Kylo looked up to Darth Vader. But once Kylo rejected the Dark Side, why didn’t his grandfather speak to him. No wonder he wanted to turn to the Dark Side.

Was this trilogy more disappointing than the Prequels?

Some random questions from some random 'Star Wars' fans

This is a tough question. The Force Awakens was a fine return to from and despite its faults, The Last Jedi introduced some pretty cool concepts. Fans were eager to see The Phantom Menace, but once they watched it, they knew they were not going to be getting the same Star Wars they loved. Episodes VII-IX had so much potential. It is also the ending to one of the most influential sagas in cinema history. Yet, it fizzled out and ended up being a fan service filled apologetic mess at the end. The Prequels may be worse, but the most recent trilogy is way more disappointing.
