Director Travis Knight exits Sony’s ‘Uncharted’ adaptation

Knight becomes the sixth director to leave the project.

Will 2020 be the year Sony’s big screen adaptation of the popular video games series Uncharted finally finds its director? Let’s hope so, because 2019 wasn’t. A report out of Deadline tells us that right on the doorstep of the new year Sony has lost yet another director for the long troubled project — this time it’s Travis Knight (Bummblebee).

Knight is the sixth, that’s right, sixth director to exit the project. He joins the former Uncharted director’s club alongside David O. Russell, Neil Burger, Seth Gordon, Shawn Levy, and Dan Trachtenberg.

Knight signed on to direct the film back in September, but exited the project went it was revealed that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man schedule is pushing back Uncharted’s timeline. As of now stars Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg remain attached to the project, in which Holland plays the lead role of Nathan Drake and Wahlberg in the supporting role of Victor “Sully” Sullivan.

The adaptation is based on the hugely popular action-adventure best selling video game series by Naughty Dog studio and published by Sony’s game division on the PlayStation consoles. Writers Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and Rafe Judkins penned the screenplay.
