A five month delay is quite substantial, especially for a AAA title. So why the delay?
“We are currently at a stage where the game is complete and playable, but there’s still work to be done,” said CD Projekt Red in their statement. “Night City is massive — full of stories, content, and places to visit, but due to the sheer scale and complexity of it all, we need more time to finish playtesting, fixing, and polishing. We want Cyberpunk 2077 to be our crowning achievement for this generation, and postponing launch will give us the precious months we need to make the game perfect.”
If you’ve watched the gameplay trailer you’ll know that Cyberpunk 2077 sports an absolutely massive in-game world with countless characters and quests. This makes for a massive undertaking for the development team. So given the sheer scale of the game, the studio has quite the tall order to ensure everything is perfect before launch. Thus it’s tough to argue with their reasoning for the delay.
