A few thoughts on DC Comics’ May 2020 solicits

Joker War, Gen 1, Man-Bat #1 and MUCH more!

When it comes to comics, some months are more exciting than others, and this is definitely one of them. Earlier today, DC released their solicits for May 2020. So without further ado, here are a couple takeaways:

Generation One: Age of Mysteries #1

A few thoughts on DC Comics' May 2020 solicits

Listen to the latest episode of our weekly comics podcast!

Now this should be interesting. Written by Brian Bendis (Superman), Dan Jurgens (Nightwing), Robert Venditti (Justice League) and more, the series promises to reveal “the secret history of the DC Universe” as seen through the eyes of people like Wonder Woman, Green Lantern (Alan Scott), King Faraday, Mr. Terrific (Terry Sloane) and many more.

The issue will reveal what “contentious alliance” kept the Wayne dynasty alive after the Waynes’ deaths, the real reason behind the Justice Society’s retirement and much more. Though I’m concerned about what Golden Age hero will “transform into its greatest villain,” my interest’s definitely piqued.

Joker War

A few thoughts on DC Comics' May 2020 solicits

It wasn’t going to be too long until Tynion tackled the Dark Knight’s greatest adversary – after all, who can resist a good joke? Kicking off in Batman #95, “Joker War” sees the Clown Prince determined to bring an end to the story of Batman and the Joker. In Detective Comics #1023, Batman turns to a two-faced friend for help against the Joker, while in Nightwing #72, Dick faces off against Punchline, his new henchwoman. Meanwhile, in Batgirl #47, the Man Who Laughs pays a visit to Barbara Gordon… It should be an interesting read, especially with what Tynion teased at the end of Batman #85.

Manhunters: The Secret History #1

A few thoughts on DC Comics' May 2020 solicits

Even if she’s not in Event Leviathan: Checkmate, I’m glad to see Kate Spencer/Manhunter getting the spotlight in this series. Written by Marc Andreyko (Supergirl), Spencer goes on a quest to find out just how deep Leviathan’s plans actually go. Intriguingly, she discovers a conspiracy going back to the start of DC’s history. I’m glad to see Kate getting focused on here, especially because of her role in the Leviathan saga and her special link to their leader.

ManBat #1

A few thoughts on DC Comics' May 2020 solicits

It’s been a long time since Man-Bat had his own comic, though it only makes sense. If the bat-like Morbius has his own comic again, why not Man-Bat? Written by Dave Wielgosz (A Very DC Halloween),  Kirk Langstrom suffers a devastating setback and finally hits rock bottom, so takes out his fury on everyone in Gotham. I’ve liked Man-Bat for a long time, so I’m looking forward to seeing what this is like.

Look out for all of these, and more, this May.
