Daredevil #18

Words by Chip Zdarsky. Art by Jorge Fornés.

The issue manages to keep the story moving along, but we are dealing with a major victory and a major loss in this issue. I don’t want to spoil it for you, but my reactions to both of these events are something that I want to share as both will have major influence on Matt. I feel the victory will help Matt understand and remember his role and why he became Daredevil, which will help lead to the return of his red costume in May — a nice full circle of events and finding your way since this series began. The loss will be a rough one on Matt and I know that this could be something that will really test Matt’s actions and faith. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Chip Zdarsky is really crafting an amazing story that will make this run an all-time great. (10/10)

Superman Smashes the Klan #3

Words by Gene Luen Yang. Art by Gurihiru.

Fantastic conclusion and showcase of the moments you’ve been waiting for, including lots of firsts for Superman. The children in this story also are very strong characters and you care about their struggles as well. If you want an adventure with growth along with positivity and hope, here is an adventure worthy of Superman. (10/10)

DCEASED: Unkillables #1

Words by Tom Taylor. Art by Karl Moster.

With arresting visuals and witty scripting, DCEASED: Unkillables #1 is absolute perfection. Tom Taylor’s scripting provides not only jaw-dropping moments of horror but also the humor needed to balance the darkness. Taylor’s dialogue perfectly punctuates each moment with words that feel like they’re coming straight from my mouth. None of this would be as effective without Mostert’s artwork. The entire art team has crafted a book of beautiful yet horrifying images that will haunt you long after reading. The creators are obviously having just as much fun working on this title as I am reading it. Evoke your inner 28 Days Later zombie and run, don’t limp, to your local comic book shop to pick up this book. (10/10)

Skulldigger and Skeleton Boy #3

Words by Jeff Lemire. Art by Tonci Zonjic.

This continues to be one of the most absorbing superhero experiences every issue. The street-level vigilante hero is getting their due thanks to the well-paced story and visionary art on display. (10/10)

New Mutants #7

Words by Jonathan Hickman. Art by Rod Reis.

The New Mutants has always been about the relationship between these friends since they were teenagers. Seeing Mirage, Karma, Wolfsbane, Cypher, Cannonball and Sunspot all interact with each other like they did in their original run was nostalgic and hit all of those wonderful heartstrings. It is a story about friendship, and especially that between Cannonball and Sunspot. It’s been many years since we have been able to see the dynamic between these two mutants. While the story is clunky, I am willing to push that aside to typical Shi’ar bullsh*t, because the character interactions in this are far too wonderful to miss. (9.5/10)
