Japanese star Sareee announces signing with WWE

WWE locks down another decorated Japanese wrestler.

WWE has locked down yet another top talent from the land of the rising sun. Saturday at the World Woman Pro-Wrestling Diana show, joshi star Sareee announced that she has signed with WWE and will be reporting to the Performance Center in Orlando next month to begin her training.

Sareee first met with WWE officials, including the head of NXT, Triple H, during WWE’s Japan tour last Summer (2019). The photo shared in her tweet today is accompanied by the words that say (when translated by Twitter):

“I decided to think about doing professional wrestling abroad outside of Japan. And WWE joining has been decided. I am relieved to be able to properly report to everyone. Spreading Japanese women’s professional wrestling, Aiming for the top of WWE, Aim for the pinnacle of women’s professional wrestling. I will fight over my life. #wwe#Sareee”

Real name Sari Fujimura is a Kyoko Inoue-trainee who’s been wrestling since she was a teenage. Sareee is a former Diana Champion and Diana Tag Team Champion, and has won gold in the JWP Joshi Puroresu and Sendai Girls’ Pro Wrestling promotions.

Japanese female wrestlers in WWE thus far have a very good reputation, with Asuka and Kairi Sane both holding the NXT Women’s Championship and the pair are the current WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. Asuka is also the most dominant NXT Women’s Champion in company history. While Io Shirai has yet to capture gold, she’s viewed as one of the top female talents in the company. Sareee will have to hit a high bar to compete with her country-women’s accomplishments.
